Burning Mouth Syndrome
Burning Mouth Syndrome is most often noted in women during menopause,
but the condition may accompany other conditions. These include
anxiety and depression, type 2 diabetes, nutritional deficiencies
(B1, B2, B6, B12, folic acid & iron). It's not certain that
these conditions cause the affliction. Mild strokes may also be
responsible. Recent studies have indicated changes in the brain
may be linked to Burning Mouth Syndrome.
Many patients with Burning Mouth Syndrome exhibit other oral complaints,
as well. The patient may also notice dryness and changes in how
certain food taste.
Certain medications, including some anti-depressents, may be effective
as a treatment.
