Fighting Tartar
Tartar begins with plaque, which forms on your teeth constantly.
It is a colorless, sticky deposit produced by fluids, food, and
saliva. This can lead to periodontal (gum) disease.
The condition varies from person to person but fighting it becomes
more difficult as we grow older.
Fighting plaque requires brushing and flossing twice daily.
If the deposits are not removed adequately, plaque hardens on the
teeth and becomes unsightly tartar (also called calculus). Your
dentist has the tools and equipment to remove tartar. ADA -accepted
tartar-control toothpastes, and professional cleanings every six
months, or more frequently, can help prevent the speed of the buildup.
