Headaches, Migraines & TMJ Symptoms
Headaches and migraines are often the result of a very common problem:
clenching or grinding the teeth. This impacts the muscles and jaw
joints and studies indicate a vast majority of us subconsciously
clench or grind our teeth. Dentists call this condition "bruxing".
Bruxing often leads to muscle pain, TMJ noises or tempromandibular
joint disorder, which results when the joints in the jaw begin to
deteriorate. Headaches, migraines and neck pain are common symptoms.
Ear ringing or congestion in the ears is also noted.
Bruxing may result in damaged teeth, as well.
Dentists may be able to provide a mouthpiece to protect the teeth
from harm and alleviate other problems, which accompany the condition,
including headaches. It must be properly fitted to meet the needs
of your particular condition.
Patients may also require procedures to restore teeth to their
proper condition. A variety of orthodontic procedures may be considered
to accomplish this.
